MYM Youth and Advisors visited the Alexandra House in Blaine as part of a community service and awareness project. During the visit, the group learned about the services the organization provides and ways youth groups can help.
Alexandra House is a non-profit, community based organization located in Blaine. They provide 24-hour emergency shelter, support services, and advocacy to battered women and families.
The mission of Alexandra House is to end domestic violence. They believe that to achieve their mission, it is vital to break the cycle of domestic violence and ignite social change through advocacy, shelter and education. They emphasize that domestic abuse is not a private, family matter, but rather a community problem. They strongly feel that their success is directly related to their connections within the community.
Alexandra House is the only battered women’s shelter for women and families in Anoka County. More Details |

MYM Participates in Earth Day 2008 |
|
The world is green and beautiful, and God has appointed you His stewards towards it.
Earth Day is a time to celebrate gains we have made and create new visions to accelerate environmental progress. Earth Day is a time to unite around new actions. Earth Day and every day is a time to act to protect our planet.
MYM participated in the Earth Day activity at Masjid An-Nur on Tuesday April 22nd. Twenty-five men, women and children, equipped with work gloves and plastic bags, picked up debris from Broadway to Plymouth on Lyndale Avenue; and Lyndale to Emerson on 18th Avenue. After the clean-up, the volunteers enjoyed a meal and good conversation. The streets around the Masjid look wonderful. This activity was more than just picking up trash; it was an opportunity for everyone involved to improve their community and make it beautiful. |
